ABSTRACT

Background and objectives: Platelet antiagregation is one of the main beneficial therapeutic measures in the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke. This review aims to analyze the recommendations and current evidence regarding the most studied antiplatelet therapies. Results: antiplatelet therapy with aspirin on the first 24 hours of the beginning of the event has a strong recommendation in the reduction of the risk of death and recurrent cerebrovascular events. Dual antiplatet therapy with the strongest evidence for secondary prevention accounts for dipyridamole plus aspirin, and aspirin plus clopidogrel (superiority on efficay and safety against monotherapy mainly on the first 30 days after stroke).
