ABSTRACT

Aim: To determine if Kinesio Taping® decreases muscular tone and increases ankle mobility on children with cerebral palsy GMFCS I and II. Material and methods: A comparative, analytical, prospective, and intervention study was designed and participants were their own control. They were selected among patients of Centro de Rehabilitación e Inclusión Infantil Teletón Durango who fulfill the selection criteria: cerebral palsy GMFCS I y II and equinus associated to muscular spasticity. 46 extremities were evaluated from 30 persons. Results: No significant difference was found in measures before and after taping (p›0.05), neither between levels of GMFCS or when subject had undergone previous surgery. Patients and their families described a positive perception about taping on active mobility and gait pattern. Conclusions: This study did not show any difference in muscular tone or ankle movement when applying Kinesio Taping®, but participants perceived improvement in active mobility and gait pattern.
