Perfil sociodemográfi co de madres embarazadas consumidoras de drogas ilegales atendidas en un Hospital Materno Infantil

ABSTRACT

Background. Substance abuse has been a problem worldwide, in recent decades attention has been directed to the use of legal and illegal substances by pregnant women since they cross the placenta involving risks to the health of the fetus and the newborn, becoming an alarming public health problem. The aim was identify the sociodemographic profile of mothers who consume illegal drugs during pregnancy. Material and methods. Descriptive cross-sectional study evaluating files integrated in the Fetal Abuse Committee of the Hospital Materno Infantil “Esperanza López Mateos” with a history of illegal drug use during pregnancy from January / 2016 to July / 2018. Sociodemographic variables were considered. Descriptive statistics with measures of central tendency and dispersion. SPSS 23.0 statistical package. Acceptance State Investigation Committee 25 / HMIELM-JAL / 2019. Results. 173 files were analyzed. The incidence of illegal drug use during pregnancy 10.4 per 1000 live births. The most related factors were maternal age 20-25 years, n=73 (42%), single n=88 (50.8%), primary schooling n=69 (39.8%), housewives n=138 (69.7%), prenatal control n=118 (68.2%), tobacco use n=74 (42.7%). Only 44 (25.4%) planned their pregnancy. The newborns were female n=83 (47.9%), the days of life at the time of the interview 0-5 days (87.2%). The most commonly used drug was methamphetamine. Conclusions. The most common characteristics of drug-consuming mothers were young, lonely, with primary age, housewives with apparent good prenatal control.
