ABSTRACT
Kidney transplant it has been considered in the last years as the treatment of choice for medicaly suitable patients with end-stage renal disease. Right now in Mexico there is about 17,042 patients in the waiting list to receive a kidney transplant according to the CENATRA figures, it's also well known that in our country the most popular kidney transplant that is performed is the live related transplant. However blood type and crossmatch incompatibility will exclude at least one third of patients in need from receiving a live donor kidney transplant. Kidney paired donation offers incompatible donor/recipient pairs the opportunity for match with compatible pairs to perform kidney transplants with excellent results. We present in this paper the first paired donation kidney transplant performed in the Yucatan peninsula.
