ABSTRACT

Introduction: COVID-19 is currently a pandemic affecting more than half the countries in the world. Objective: To describe the behavior of patients who were treated during this first half of the nation's pandemic at Roosevelt Hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted of the universe of patients treated by COVID-19 at Roosevelt Hospital from April to September 2020. Variables that allowed to give answer to the proposed objective were operationalized. The ethics of scientific research were complied with, especially the principle of data confidentiality. The qualitative and quantitative variables were summarized in absolute and relative frequencies. Results: the disease was more frequently presented in the male sex, especially in the elderly. In the first 48 hours, mortality was predominant in the cases that arrived at the hospital in critical condition. This shows that mortality increases with age, which is demonstrated by the statistically significant association between sex and age group variables, when using the X2 test (p=0.000). Conclusions: it was described the behavior of the disease caused by COVID-19 in patients positive to the virus in Roosevelt Hospital, being found in some variables, similar behavior to other similar studies at international level.
