ABSTRACT

An arteriovenous fistula is an abnormal communication, without passing through the capillary bed, between an artery and a vein. It is rare the formation of renal arteriovenous fistulas after a nephrectomy. In this regard, the aim of this article is to assess the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to be followed with a case of post-nephrectomy arteriovenous and renal pelvis fistula. The diagnosis of the 26 years old male patient was suspected by the urologic and cardiovascular symptoms, as well as by the history and physical examination findings. The diagnosis was confirmed with imaging studies. A strong suspicion involved performing a renal echo Doppler and then an arteriography as a confirmation diagnostic method. It was proposed conventional surgical treatment with ligation of the renal artery and the renal vein separately because he did not meet the criteria for supraselective embolization.
