ABSTRACT

Nasal packing is often used to manage epistaxis when conventional measures fail. This procedure requires basic theoretical and practical knowledge, but low training rates have been described. Simulation plays a crucial role in training practical skills, while maintaining the patient's safety. A comprehensive review of the literature regarding simulation models available for training on the management of epistaxis was carried out. We found models based on 3D-printing, cadaveric models, adaptations of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and low-cost hand-made models that allow posterior and anterior nasal packing training. These studies indicate a statistically significant increase in the knowledge and confidence of the post-training learner. Even though they have educational value, most are not validated. Therefore, they remain a challenge to analyze in further studies.
