Metabolic Control of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Comparison Between the Diabetimss program and Family Medicine offices

ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the metabolic control of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus seen in the Diabetimss program and in family medicine offices. Methods: cross-sectional analytical study, 243 records were analyzed; the rate of metabolic control of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in family medicine offices and in DiabetIMMS was assessed. Descriptive statistics were performed for demographic variables and Pearson’s χ2 to determine statistical differences between groups. Results: of the 243 files, 54.3% were from the DiabetIMMS group and 45.7% from the family practice, age was 54.11 ±10.86 vs 63.83 ± 12.03 years, fasting glucose of 128. 61 ±45.63 vs 150.27 ± 55.24 (p= 0.001, IC 0.000-0.000), triglycerides 154.20 ±90.96 vs 176.86 ±88.05 (p= 0.001, CI 1.377-3.865) and HbA1c 6.84 ± 1.52 vs 7.93 ±2.26 (p= 0.001 CI 0.526-1.656). Conclusion: there was no metabolic control in the studied population regardless of the consultation context. High values were detected in cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglyceride levels, with statistically significant differences in both groups.
