ABSTRACT

Background: In many emergency departments, triage is not performed optimally, particularly in patients with ENT entities, and even more so, in those with balance disorders.
Objective:To design and test a medical application or “m-Health” that, without eliminating personal medical criteria or aggravating the user, could facilitate the work of filtering patients with probable vestibular affection, which indirectly would generate significant savings in time, human, financial and hospital resources.
Materials and Methods: A descriptive study done from March to September 2020. After the development of the beta model of the application, consisting of a dynamic digital algorithm created from information from pre-existing guidelines published by international societies of otorhinolaryngology and otoneurology, 75 doctors from different hierarchies were invited to evaluate its usefulness, ease of use, and probability of download based on the technology acceptance model.
Results: About the complexity of use of the app 46/75 subjects considered it as “very easy” to use, 22/75 as “easy” to use and 7/75 as “regular”. None potential user perceived it as “difficult” nor “very difficult” to use.
Conclusions: Thanks to the existence of high-level scientific evidence regarding vestibular pathologies reproducible on a digital platform, a mobile application well structured does facilitate the triage of patients with vertigo.
