Ethical conduct of nurses in the care of patients in hospital

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Ethical conduct of nursing, as an ideal behavior of the nurse with morality, loyalty, prudence and respect, has an acceptable social impact for the attention and care to patients. For this reason, arose de need to address the ethical conduct of nurses in the care of the patient, based on the Care Theory of Jean Watson. The objective of the study was to determine the degree of ethical conduct of nurses in the inpatient care in the internal medicine department of a second level hospital of the Ministry of Health.
Materials and method: Prospective, transversal and descriptive study, through the application of the Rating Scale ethical conduct of nurses on 23 patients admitted to the Internal Medicine Department of a secondary hospital of Veracruz during 2014.
Results. Thirteen percent of patients surveyed had diabetes, 9,0% pneumonia, and the rest other diseases with an average hospital stay of 20.61 days. Only 4,3% evaluated nurses with a high degree of ethical conduct, 45,0% average and 52,0% degree low.
Conclusions: Patients evaluated generally low ethical conduct of nurses. This is worrying, because it could be argued that the nurse of second level hospital under study is setting aside affection, cooperation, treatment and care.
