ABSTRACT

Antimicrobial resistant Acinetobacter baumanii (ABC) infections cases, in particular due to the complex Acinetobacter nosocomialis and Acinetobacter pittii have increased in recent years. It has being considered as an important cause of community infections and in those associated to health care. A case of a 40-year-old male patient who developed two weeks prior to admission, generalized abdominal pain and weight loss is presented; a thoracic-abdominal tomography was performed where multiple mediastinal lymphadenopathy, extensive alveolar infiltrates were identified, in both lungs a bronchogram image and consolidation areas were compatible with the pneumonic process. An expectoration culture was requested, through the automated microbial identification system VITEK® 2 (bioMérieux), A. baumannii complex (99%) was identified and isolated A. pittii.
