Gerbode defect, cardiac malformation.

ABSTRACT

The first clinical case of the Gerbode defect diagnosed at the Children’s Hospital of the State of Sonora is presented, which is a rare congenital defect of the atrioventricular septum that communicates the left ventricle with the right atrium. Its diagnosis is through the echocardiogram study; the study of cardiac catheterization can be performed, which as an invasive diagnostic method helps to corroborate the diagnosis. There is controversy regarding the decision to carry out surgical intervention in an asymptomatic clinical condition; In this case, we consider carrying out the closure of the septal defect as a timely measure in order to prevent the risk of bacterial endocarditis, so it is sent to surgical programming; since studies show this intracardiac communication.
