ABSTRACT

Introduction: It is considered that 5 to 9,2% of skin cancers are located in the eyelid. This area represents 90 % of ophthalmologic tumors. Case presentation: We report a case of a patient diagnosed with sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid with a completely atypical presentation. Initially, a growing eyelid tumor was identified. A detailed review of the medical history was carried out and a corresponding biopsy was performed. Conclusion: Sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid is a rare entity in ophthalmic practice. These lesions are easily confused with benign lesions such as chalazion and blepharoconjunctivitis due to the specialist’s lack of familiarity with the disease. A high index of suspicion and proper knowledge about the existence of this entity are necessary for its adequate and timely treatment
