ABSTRACT
Organ transplantation represents the only definitive therapeutic option for patients with end-stage organ failure. This option has demonstrated its effectiveness and its positive impact on the health and economic systems. It is estimated that a multi-organ donor has the potential to benefit 7 or more recipients. Countries such as Spain and Portugal (with 30 to 40 donors per million inhabitants per year) have placed great importance on meeting the therapeutic goals of donors (MTD) during preservation therapy (PT) in Brain Death Donors (DME), all this due to the large number of complications inherent to this clinical condition that put the loss of these donors at risk. Although there is no established consensus of the BAT, there are proposals prepared by the Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) such as the United Network For Organ Sharing (UNOS) and the medical management forum to optimize the potential of the organ donor (Forum of Medical Management to Optimize Donor Organ Potential [FMMODOP], which have shown greater benefits with respect to the number of organs procured per donor. Because Mexico has a low donation rate (0.01 to 9.9 donors per million inhabitants), it is important that the management of DME is guided by the therapeutic goals proposed by the OPOs to avoid requesting organs that can be procured, considering the experience of the Hospital of specialties "Dr. Antonio Fraga Mouret" from the "La Raza" National Medical Center (HECMNR) in the area of cadaveric donation the present study seeks to evaluate the preservation therapy assigned to the DME in order to determine if the MTD established by the OPOs were achieved.
