ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Revista Mexicana de Cirugía Endoscópica (RMCE), founded in the year 2000, has evolved greatly but has also suffered difficulties in the timely acquisition of quality manuscripts. With the purpose of evaluating its present situation, an analysis of its editorial activity during the last five years was performed and new goals for its improvement were proposed. Material and methods: Variables registered included number and type of articles published, main subjects, origin and institution of articles received, number of online visits and consults, countries which view the journal and journals which cite the RMCE. Additionally, the indexation status was reviewed. Results: In the period of evaluation, 16 numbers and 141 articles were published. Main subjects included hernia surgery (17.7%), biliary surgery (17%), bariatric surgery (8.5%), robotics (7%) and surgery for appendicitis (6.4%). Articles were received from 62 Mexican and five foreign hospitals. 55% were from public institutions and 45% from private ones. 55% originated from Mexico City. A daily average of 616 visits and 835 on-line consults were registered. 352 citations from 44 different journals were found. Present indexation shows impact principally at a regional level in Mexico, Latin America, and Spanish speaking countries. Conclusion: Despite having a solid editorial structure and growing quality in its publications, in order to achieve higher international index status, strategies are required to increase the base of contributions and to diversify the scientific subjects that are published.REFERENCES
