ABSTRACT

Carcinoma of the cervix is the leading cause of cancer deaths in woman in Mexico and an opportune diagnosis of squamous intraepithelial lesions will decrease morbidity and mortality. Cervico-vaginal cytology is a useful diagnostic tool and when the epithelium is abnormal is necessary to carry out a colposcopy and a biopsy.
There are some reports in medical literature in which there are no correlation between cytology-colposcopy and pathology. The authors report the correlation between cytology and pathology of 84.3%.
