ABSTRACT

BCG vaccine was introduced in the world in 1921, in order to protect against severe forms of tuberculosis, mainly neuroinfection. Vaccination should be performed in the neonatal period, it is applied intradermally in the right deltoid region after asepsis and antisepsis techniques; it presents a skin reaction that goes from two to eight weeks after application, on some occasions adverse reactions have been reported. We present the case of a female infant with an abscess by Providencia rustingianii at the vaccine application site. It is likely that the abscess began at the time of biological application. She responded with antimicrobial treatment.
