ABSTRACT

Background: Laryngeal trauma is infrequent; in the United States of America the incidence is 1 in 30,000 patients. The importance of an early diagnosis and treatment lies in the morbidity and mortality of the damage caused by airway obstruction.
Clinical case:CLINICAL CASE: A 59-year-old male patient admitted in June 2020 with diagnosis of penetrating external laryngeal trauma plus asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in a tertiary care center in Mexico City, who received treatment in a single surgical procedure with a primary 3-layer wound closure and tracheostomy, with favorable evolution and removal of the tracheostomy cannula 9 days after the procedure and discharge from the service with laryngeal function preserved demonstrated by laryngoscopy and pharyngoesophagogram.
Conclusions: Laryngeal trauma is a condition that deserves an evaluation independently of the concomitant conditions of the patient, due to its high potential for lethality by compromising the safety of the airway.
