ABSTRACT

Introduction: Given the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variant of concern known as Ómicron, we took on the task of describing the information collected within the analytical process of the molecular test (RT-PCR) used in the identification of SARS-CoV-2 in the clinical laboratory of the Hospital Infantil de México "Federico Gómez" (HIMFG), based on established molecular diagnostic protocols. Material and methods: A retrospective analysis was carried out with information obtained in the HIMFG clinical laboratory during the current pandemic, using the values of the cycle threshold (Ct) of the internal control and viral genes in positive SARS-CoV-2 cases. Results: Ct values distribution ??in pediatric and adult patients in 2020 versus 2021 (Ómicron) is statistically significant (Mann-Whitney U test p < 0.0001). Conclusion: Based on our observations we can conclude that the Ct value of SARS-CoV-2 positive patients (Omicron variant) is much lower than that identified in 2020, both in pediatric and adult patients.
