ABSTRACT

The management of the airway of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 is considered to be at high risk of contagion for the healthcare workers involved, therefore, the knowledge by all those involved in this scenario is fundamental. When managing the airway of a COVID-19 patient, a total of 8 steps are performed, which include: the placement of personal protective equipment, the preparation of the isolation area, the personnel involved and also the equipment of use, pre-oxygenation, induction, intubation, confirmation of the tube and placement of nasogastric tube and finally, the removal of protective equipment. For the extubation of the COVID-19 patient, it is necessary to minimize the cough reflex and therefore, exposure to secretions; all necessary equipment must be prepared and checked before and after extubation.
