ABSTRACT
Introduction: The knowledge that one has before donation and transplantation does not establish that a person considers being a donor, the attitude is influenced by several factors in which awareness is very important.
General objective: To describe the attitude of beneficiaries towards the donation of organs and tissues from a potential cadaveric donor.
Material and methods: Observational, descriptive study. The ODAS scale was applied to evaluate the general attitude towards organ donation to patients or relatives who attended the outpatient clinic of any specialty, a descriptive analysis, a global analysis and by factors of the scale was carried out, with the Mann U test. –Whitney and univariate analysis and Spearman's correlation. The statistical program SPSS version 24 was used for the analysis.
Results: It included 347 beneficiaries, 55% (192) women, age 42 ± 15 years, 40% married, 83% Catholic. The total score was between 20 and 71, 41.5% agree with donating their organs after death, 43.5% have religious objections, when comparing the scores obtained for the different dimensions, a significant difference was obtained between religion and potential donor (ANOVA 0.041), in the overall score, opposition and approval there was no difference. A significant difference was observed in relation to gender, education and age in relation to the global score, opposition, approval and potential donor (0.000).
Conclusions: The attitude in general can be considered unfavorable, religious objection is one of the main limitations to be a potential donor, in addition to education and age.
