Behavior of adolescent pregnancy in Jatibonico, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Pregnancy in adolescence leads to failure in the continuity of studies and preparation for adult life.
Objective: To analyze the behavior of adolescent pregnancy in Jatibonico municipality, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba.
Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in a universe of 125 pregnant teenagers from Jatibonico municipality, in the province of Sancti Spiritus from 2014 to 2019. A questionnaire was applied and the data obtained were reflected in tables.
Results: Adolescents between 16 and 18 years old predominated. The main cause of pregnancy was ignorance of contraceptive methods. The most used methods were the condom and the copper T. The most frequent comorbidities were malformations, anemia and the threat of preterm delivery. Most of the pregnant adolescents dropped out of school.
Conclusions: The most frequent comorbidities were malformations, followed by anemia and the threat of preterm delivery. Most of the adolescents dropped out of school or frustrated their life projects.
