ABSTRACT

Introduction. Croton wagneri Müll. Arg., Is an endemic plant of Ecuador, which within the cultural heritage transmitted from generation to generation has been used as a medicinal plant as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic, so far there are no reports of the phytochemical study on secondary metabolites of biological and therapeutic interest present in the extracts of the flat.
Objective. Determine the secondary metabolites of biological and therapeutic interest present from C. wagneri Müll. Arg.
Materials and methods. The samples of C. wagneri Müll. Arg., From the province of Imbabura, city of Ibarra, parish of San Antonio de Ibarra at 2380 m height, Ecuador, was collected in fresh form in the month of May separating the different parts of the plant (leaves EH, stems ET, inflorescences EI and complete plant EPC). The different parts of the plant were placed in different solvents (ether, water and alcohol) to extract the secondary metabolites present in the drug.
Results. The phytochemical screening, carried out on the extracts of stems, leaves, inflorescences and complete plant, allowed to confirm the presence of several families of secondary metabolites of biological and pharmacological interest, mainly alkaloids, phenols, tripterpenes / steroids and flavonoids, being more abundant in the aqueous and ethanolic extract.
Conclusions. It was evident that the C wagneri Müll. Arg., Contains the great majority of secondary metabolites that were analyzed, among them the most important ones for the bological control such as: alkaloids, tripterpenes / steroids and flavonoids.
