ABSTRACT

Introduction: The leaves of the Moringa oleifera plant have been used in traditional medicine in different countries for the treatment of anti-inflammatory.
Objective: To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of Moringa dried leaves capsules as a finished form from the hydroalcoholic extract.
Methods: For the study of quantification of the anti-inflammatory activity of Moringa leaves, the model of granuloma induced by cotton wool and the model of edema of the mouse paw, induced by intraplantar administration of carrageenan, was used.
Results: Moringa dried leaves capsules, at the tested doses, significantly reduced the weight of the granuloma in comparison with the control group in the studied model. Significant reduction in edema in both the initial phase and the later phase was also observed, in the carrageenan-induced mouse paw edema model.
Conclusions: The effectiveness that ethnobotanical use attributes to this plant in terms of anti-inflammatory effect was demonstrated in animal models. The capsules showed the potential use of Moringa to make effective herbal supplements.
