ABSTRACT

Acute external laryngeal trauma is rare but potentially lethal injury, which if it is not recognized in time and treated properly can have a significant morbidity, mainly due to a combination of dysphonia, aspiration and airway stenosis, which occurs in up to 25% of cases, with an overall mortality rate of 17.9%. We present the case of a 28-year-old male patient who presented laryngeal fracture when falling from a bicycle, which was managed surgically by laryngeal repair, reduction and fixation of the thyroid cartilage with placement of a Montgomery splint and tracheostomy
