ABSTRACT

Introduction and objective: the frontal hairline delimits and frames the face, and can modified it for different reasons. There are reports of frontal hairline in patterns in several countries, in Latin America there is no information about it. The objective of this paper, was to identify the most frequent patterns of frontal hairline in Mexican women and men.
Material and methods: observational, descriptive, prospective and transversal study. Women and men between 15 and 25 years of age were evaluated. Classifying the hairline of the forehead in five patterns: rectangular, M, round, trapezoid and bell. Measuring the height of the forehead, width of the forehead and distance orbiculo temporal (DOT).
Results: 97 men and 67 women were included (164 in total). The patterns found in men were: rectangular 47.4%, in M 41.2%, trapezoid 6.1%, round 5.1%. Average forehead width of 13.7 ± 1.9 cm, average forehead height 6.1 ± 0.7 cm, average dot 4.6 ± 0.7 cm. In women the rectangular pattern in 38.8%, M in 20.8%, round 19.4%, trapezoid 14.9% and 5.9% in bell. Average forehead width of 13.5 ± 1.3 cm, average forehead height 6.1 ± 0.8 cm, average dot 4.6 ± 0.4 cm.
Conclusions: knowing the characteristics of shape and measures of the implantation hairline as well as their differences between men and women, is important for an adequate design of correction of alopecias in hair transplants.
