ABSTRACT

Objective: to determine the habits of use of conditioner in patients who attended a hair consultation in a dermatological clinic in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
Methods: a review of the clinical records of 213 patients who attended a hair dermatology consultation from 2019 to 2022 was carried out.
Results: ages were, 7-22 (8.9%), 23-37 (35.2%), 38-52 (22%), 53-67 (30.5%), 68-75 (3.2%). Of the 213 patients, 155 (72.7%) were female and 58 (27.2%) male. The main diagnosis of the participants was androgenetic alopecia (AGA) 142 (66.6%). A total of 111 (52.1%) patients report not using conditioner, while 102 (47.2%) do. Referring to the frequency of use of conditioner per week 38 (37.3%) patients report using it 4/7, 26 (25.5%) 7/7, 17 (16.7%) use it three days, 11 (10.8%) use it 2/7.
Conclusion: the main reason for avoiding the use of conditioner is ambiguous and that there are many other participants who do not use it because of the changes they perceive as negative in their hair, we consider it important in subsequent studies to determine the relationship of conditioner use that goes according to the type of hair of each patient (type of hairy skin, length of hair, dyeing practices, permanent treatments, use of heat, sun exposure) and analyze if the effect or result of its use favors the patient.
