ABSTRACT

Sleep is defined as a state of physiological rest characterized by relative suspension of consciousness and inaction of voluntary muscles. The study considered "gold standard" for its diagnosis is polysomnography through continuous monitoring of the electroencephalogram. It is notorious to see this condition becoming more frequent in the population and its causes are divided between environmental factors such as long working hours and irregular sleep schedules, as well as organic disorders. The clinical evaluation, as in other pathologies, is mainly defined by a complete clinical history from the pathological personal history as well as important hereditary family history, including a complete physical examination, all this with the purpose of identifying the disease in time. which significantly affects the daily life of those who suffer from it. Medical treatment includes from non-pharmacological therapies with adequate sleep hygiene measures to drugs that allow improving the quality of sleep and with this favor the functionality of daily activities.
