ABSTRACT

The correct treatment of a wound until its healing process has as its main objective the physiological processes that all species present, described by Celso since the 1st century BCE, it involves processes in the animal kingdom such as inflammation and angiogenesis; When these are not presented in the proper physiological way and present abnormalities or “defects” in terms of their expression in the wounds, it can become chronic presenting modifi cations in the skin such as a nonmigratory hyperproliferative epidermis, fi brosis and infl ammation. In the case of the diabetic foot, typical complications of the disease such as vasculopathy and peripheral neuropathy may occur, which associated with cause inflammatory processes typical of chronic wounds. Due to the increasing frequency of resistance to antibiotics, compounds such as potassium permanganate have regained importance due to their chemical properties of oxidants, astringents, desiccants, antiinflammatory, and microbicides. This study documents the action of potassium permanganate in 5% solution in three clinical cases (one non-chronic wound and two chronic wounds in patients with diabetes), which at the end of their treatment showed complete improvement and / or healing, in size, exudate, and necrotic tissue, as well as slough, respectively. This study demonstrates the therapeutic properties of potassium permanganate in chronic and non-chronic wounds.
