ABSTRACT
Introduction: TI-RADS is an ultrasonographic classification system whose purpose is to standardize the reporting of thyroid nodules by cancer risk categories, which reduces the global number of biopsies. Objective: to describe the ultrasonographic correlation between the TI-RADS classification and the pathological results of fine needle aspiration cytology in patients with nodular thyroid disease. Method: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in patients diagnosed with nodular thyroid disease at the Provincial Hospital "Saturnino Lora" in Santiago de Cuba, from October 2014 to October 2018. The universe consisted of 32 patients working with the whole. Results: female sex predominated and patients aged between 46 and 60 years with 37,5%. The main symptom was an increase in neck volume seen in 17 patients (53,1%). 40,3% of the thyroid nodules were classified as TI-RADS 2, which proved to be the most sensitive and specific, with a predictive value of positivity and negativity of 100%. Conclusions: thyroid nodules occur more frequently in the female sex and between the fourth and sixth decade of life, generally manifested by an increase in neck volume. The general level of concordance of the TI-RADS categories with the cytological results was high, proving to be a good tool for targeting fine needle aspiration cytology in patients who meet clear conditions of suspicion of malignancy.REFERENCES
