Medicine, an outstanding art hidden in Marti's writings

ABSTRACT

Introduction:v Martí’s literary work reached an exceptional impact on those topics related to preventive medicine that collocates him in the top of science in all times. Objective: to describe the direct relation between Martí´s literary and artistic work and his knowledge about the preventive and interventionist medicine. Methods: the analysis of phrases pronounced by José Martí in his handwritings and speeches was carried out to reach the proposals of this scientific review. The information was obtained from José Martí Studies National Center in Cuba and other data extracted from books. Articles related only with Martí and medicine was strictly selected. Development: Martí dedicated special attention to medical topics related to prevention and promotion of diseases, particularly hygiene and his provisory character. Conclusions: Martí´s interest on medical science was mediated, firstly for his wide general formation and secondly, for his deep necessity to know about his own diseases.
