ABSTRACT

Introduction: The screening methods for cardiovascular disease risk are the Framingham Score and the Arterosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease of the American College of Cardiology. In Mexico, there are no studies that evaluate said risk in the amputee population. Material and methods: Transversal, observational and descriptive study from December 2018 to July 2019 in 89 adults with major amputation. Data were recollected, previous patient consent and a blood sample was taken. The free online risk calculators for both scores were used. Results: 72 patients were studied with the diagnosis of major amputation, the average age was 55.13 years, 25% female and 75% male. Most of the patients had 58% transfemoral, 18% transtibial and 17% transradial amputation. According to Framingham Risk Score, 25% had intermediate risk and 41% high risk. According to the American College Score 20% had intermediate and 26% high risk. Conclusions: The hypothesis was proved, 65% of the patients studied had intermediate-high risk according to Framingham risk score and 56% according to the American college. Even though a statistically significant correlation was not found between both scores, lipidic risk factors, modifiable, non-modifiable and other risk factors, the present study demonstrates that the population with major amputation has an elevated cardiovascular risk.
