ABSTRACT

Introduction: The Red Cross is a Private Assistance Institution that provides care to the patient with or without any kind of social security since its foundation in 1910. It is specialized in prehospital and hospital medical care for patients with traumatic injuries. Objectives: This article is a tribute to all those physicians concerned with the training of general surgeons at the Red Cross Trauma Center in the Federal District. Material and methods: A documentary review and obtention of testimonials were driven in order to tell the story of 85 years of general surgery specialists teaching in the hospitals of the Mexican Red Cross. Results: The Mexican Red Cross Trauma Center in the Federal District (formerly the Central Hospital of the Mexican Red Cross), founded in 1968, has more than 50 years of experience in the care of trauma victims, over 30 years as a school-hospital and has graduated 45 generations of general surgeons and one of specialists in Trauma Surgery. Conclusions: The influence of this institution on the surgical practice of our country is undeniable. It is very difficult to mention each and every one of the main characters of its history, for the pages of time have covered some of their names, but not their work, that is all of us who proudly graduated from this great institution.
