Aggressive osteoblastoma of the mandible. A case report

ABSTRACT

Introduction. Osteoblastoma is an infrequent tumor, constituting 1% of primary bone tumors and its occurrence in the maxillofacial region constitutes is equally unusual. Correct diagnosis is difficult, since it bears clinical, radiologic and histological similarities with other bone lesions.
Clinical case. Eleven year old boy with two month of an inflammatory progressive increase tumor located on left inferior body maxillar bone. The histological study shown that it was a tumoral epiteliod osteoblastic lesion with positive osteocalcine immunoreactivity. It was extirpated and after two years of following in the outpatient clinic there is not signs evidence of disease.
Discussion. Agressive osteoblastoma is an infrequent bone neoplasm, constituted mainly by epitelioid cells. Recommended treatment is surgical en-block resection.
Conclusion. Aggressive Osteoblastoma is a very infrequent bone tumor. Therefore, the clinician must be well trained in order to establish an early an accurate diagnosis and indicate an adequate and opportune treatment.
