ABSTRACT

Becoming a good doctor requires much more than just technical excellence. First and foremost, the professional is optimized as the human being (which underpins the doctor) improves. Much is discussed about the qualities necessary for good practice, but little is said about which defects should be alleviated in the journey that hones the professional of excellence. This article highlights the importance of deconstructing human imperfections for the advent of the good doctor. Neuroscience is emphasized as a crucial tool in the reconciliation between the humanities and medicine. Medical education and training are approached through promising resources for building the professional of excellence.
