ABSTRACT

In the current circumstances experienced in the world, we feel compelled to follow the example of great thinkers who have dealt with humor and laughter. What led us to explore these issues was the contrast observed between the suffering caused by the pandemic and the proliferation of jokes, memes, cartoons and other forms of expression, where COVID 19 was transformed into an object of sarcasm or irony. Our objective was to take up some reflections on humor and laughter, mainly coming from the field of psychoanalysis, to link them with the circulation of jokes and images that have become present in this time of pandemic. Our main idea is to point out that humor and laughter are produced even in the most painful circumstances. When talking about the comic, the humorist and the truth of the joke, we place the feeling of the comic as a psychic phenomenon that belongs to the existing frontier between pleasure and displeasure; it is the humorist who places us, with his skills, on that dangerous line by transgressing a certain symbolic order and disturbing the barriers of censorship. We try to show here that, with humor, jokes and comicality, we dare to fight against that great Other that imposes itself in many ways, taking us through paths that are not always to our liking.
