ABSTRACT
Introduction: the diagnosis of gallbladder dyskinesia (GD) is difficult and the decision to remove it for this condition can be complex. Dynamic cholescintigraphy (DCG) has high sensitivity for this diagnosis, however, it is not widely used. Even if the diagnosis is confirmed, the indication of cholecystectomy is controversial. In this series, we analyze the clinical results of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in patients with GD and the association between positive DCG and the pathologic changes of the excised gallbladders.
Material and methods: analysis of the records of patients with symptoms suggestive of gallbladder disease with normal ultrasonography, studied by DCG. Patients with positive DCG who accepted, underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and the histopathological study was collected. All had three postoperative consultations.
Results: of 69 patients, 24 were excluded due to lack of the DCG result. Of the remaining 45, 29 (64.4%) had positive DCG. Twenty-seven underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Two refused surgery. All operated patients reported complete resolution of their symptoms without relapse. All the excised gallbladders showed histopathologic abnormalities.
Conclusion: in this series, all patients with GD who were operated showed gallbladder histopathologic abnormalities and in all of them their clinical symptoms were resolved.
