ABSTRACT
Postoperative omalgia after laparoscopic procedures presents in 35 to 80% of cases while being practically absent in open surgical techniques. It is important to understand what its possible causes are, and which factors have been associated to its presence, to be able posteriorly, to design methods that prevent or control this problem. This review describes the results of the main studies which have reported on the etiology of the postoperative shoulder pain syndrome.
