ABSTRACT

Cryptorchidism is one of the most common congenital anomalies at birth. It affects more than 3% of children born at the end of pregnancy period and up to 33% of preterm newborns. Surgical treatment reduces the risk of torsion, facilitates examination of the testicle, improves its endocrine function and creates a scrotum with normal appearance. Treatment is based on the theory that early intervention prevents secondary degeneration of the testicles caused by the high temperatures to which it is subjected outside the scrotal bag. This is the case of a two-year-old boy who shows intra-abdominally located right testicle cryptorchidism. The patient underwent the first videolaparoscopic orchydopexy in Matanzas province. It was concluded that videolaparoscopy is an important diagnostic-therapeutic tool for this entity.
