ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to know which are the barriers that general practitioners in dentistry use fot the simple tooth extraction procedure.Prevention and infection control in the dental office when a simple extraction is performed is of outmost importance for the dentist and his patient, in order to avoid the risk of contracting an infection such as AIDS, hepatitis B, etc. Will the general practitioner have the knowledge for a simple tooth extraction?
Fifty general practitioners in México city were interviewed with questions regarding their knowledge about infection control in the dental office.
The inquired dentist were, general practitioners, maxilo-facial surgeons, and periodontist. 27 male and 23 female. The ages ranges from 22 to 65 years.
An analytical and descriptive study was carried out and the literature review in subjects of dental office precautions, pre, trans and post-chirurgical. Basic protection barriers and infection control for a simple tooth extraction for the dental office were reviewed.
The results were good for the 12 questions. The 50 dentist had a score of 80% (p›.05).
