High degree parotid mucoepidermoid carcinoma masked by a cervical infection. Case report

ABSTRACT

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a malignant tumor of salivary glands with a variable degree of aggression. Formed of stratified epithelial cells with mucous secretion, without capsule. It is a non frequent lesion that can be confused clinically a roentgenographically with odontogenic or deep cervical infections. It is preseented a case of a high degree mucoepidermoid parotideal carcinoma which at the beginning was masked clinically and histopathologically as a cervicofacial infection (paniculitis). After remission of the infection it is apparent a high degree of parotid CME (T4 MO NO) in the same site. The patient was treated with Radiotherapy and chemotherapy and chemotherapy without surgical management, unfortunately, survival was less than a year. It should be mentioned that malignant cervicofacial neoplasia can be subject to secondary infection that in the clinic are like infectious process of long evolution, if not diagnosed with an opportune biopsy of representative areas can lead to lesions with poor prognosis like the case here presented.
