ABSTRACT
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has caused a negative impact on cadaveric organ donation processes in the world. Medical evidence has suggested evaluating the mortality risk of the recipient and the risk of transmission from the surgical team in the decision to use SARS-CoV-2-positive donors. In this case, we report the process of an asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2-positive cadaveric liver donor for a recipient patient with primary liver failure due to thrombosis of the hepatic artery classified as a transplant emergency. The present case may set a precedent for donation and transplant programs to begin considering asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2-positive donors with a high cycle threshold (Ct), for recipients with high mortality and/or morbidity who can potentially benefit.
