ABSTRACT

The branchial cyst is considered a congenital malformation, when there is incomplete obliteration of the branchial arches. The type of cyst depends directly on the arch, although the prevalence of the second arch cyst reaches almost 95% of incidence in adults. A clinical case of a 23-year-old adult is presented who consulted for increased volume in the cervical region, of rapid evolution, indurated and painful on palpation. The imaging study indicates a cystic lesion, encapsulated lateral to the carotid sheath. Enucleation under general anesthesia is decided and surgery is proposed in conjunction with otorhinolaryngology. The anatomopathological study suggests the presence of a second branchial arch cyst. The clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment alternatives of second branchial arch anomalies are discussed.
