ABSTRACT

Cutaneous leiomyomas are rare benign skin tumors that arise from dermal smooth muscle. Piloleiomyoma is the most common cutaneous variant of leiomyoma and can occur at any age, although it usually develops in the second and third decades of life. The lesions present as multiple subcutaneous papules and nodules, of firm consistency and variable size from a few millimeters to 1.5 cm in diameter, of normal skin color or erythematous-pruritic, and may be painful. The case is presented of a 38-year-old female patient with clinical symptoms of more than fifteen years of evolution with multiple skin lesions, for which she has attended dermatology consultations without having an accurate diagnosis. A skin biopsy confirmed piloleiomyoma. This case is of interest because it is a rare tumor within the practice of dermatology and its comprehensive management represents a challenge for the specialist.
