ABSTRACT

Introduction: although increasing numbers of centers are offering simulation instructors training activities, relatively little is known about whether completing such activities contributes to a change in participants of some kind, and it is important to collect such data in a structured manner for various reasons. Therefore, the aim of the study presented in this article was to study the experiences of participants in a specific simulation instructors training program and how this program contributes to the professional development of these participants. Material and methods: we used an immersive learning experience comprising an interactive online module of 15 days, 4 days presential online of 8 hours each and an individual online mentoring session. The methods included feedback between peers and mentors during and after practice, as well as interactive sessions and discussions. The data source consisted of brief written reflections at the end of each 8-hour presential online day. Results: the results were categorized using the learning themes formulated by Kolbe and Rudolph (2018): evaluations of sessions and tools, notes to oneself, metacognitions about one's own learning process, anticipations of applications of new skills in future, and emotions in the learning process. Moreover, a progression in professional development was identified that fits completely within these themes. Conclusion: this study contributes to the evidence of the stability of key themes in the experiences and professional development of participants in a simulation instructors training program.
