ABSTRACT

The most abundant protein in the human body is collagen. This has been used for its physical, chemical and biological characteristics for different medical applications. In this review, the different sources of its harvest are briefly listed. Also, different devices made with it that are briefly reviewed, focused in the use in spinal surgery. Finally, it is discussed that source from is harvested the collagen influeces in results obtained, therefore devices based on human collagen is proposed as an alternative that should be explored.
