ABSTRACT

Introduction: thoracic schwannoma is a neurogenic, encapsulated, well-defined tumor, most frequently in the posterior mediastinum. The characteristic lack of symptoms it produces is related to their indolent growth, which delays diagnosis until appropriate imaging studies are performed. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been considered the best tool to investigate schwannomas since it allows the characterization of this tumor's anatomy and the surrounding tissues for proper management. Clinical case: we present a 40-year-old male with a one-month history of pain in the dorsal region, which was referred for a thoracic MRI evaluation. Conclusion: MRI is essential to establish the diagnosis and surgical planning, with surgical resection being the leading choice for treatment.
