ABSTRACT

Introduction: Heart valve disease is a very common pathology.
Objective: To characterize the results of valve surgery at the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery during the period 2016-2019.
Method: An observational, descriptive and retrospective study was carried out. The universe consisted of 753 patients. Results: The average age was 59.2 ± 11.0 years with a predominance of males (52.3%). Arterial hypertension was the most frequent personal pathological antecedent, predominating ex-smokers and aortic (43.9%) and mitral (28.0%) stenosing valve lesion. There was a predominance of patients with ASA III (84.6) physical status assessment, slightly decreased renal function, and left ventricular ejection fraction less than 50%.
Conclusions: The patients in this investigation had several risk factors and personal pathological antecedents, typical of patients with valvular affectations that require surgical treatment. The aforementioned justify an important limitation of the physical state at the time of surgery. Despite the fact that left ventricular function and renal function were mostly within normal parameters, a percent of patients presented depression of glomerular filtration and ventricular function.
