ABSTRACT

Background: Leprosy or Hansen’s disease is caused by Mycobacterium leprae; clinically it occurs from skin lesions to severe neural lesions due to peripheral nerve involvement and sensory dysfunction.
Clinical case: A 55-year-old male patient, with no significant medical history, who consulted the outpatient service due to the initial appearance of multiple nodular, erythematous lesions with burning pain and itching, in who lepromatous leprosy was diagnosed.
Conclusions: The recognition of skin lesions in primary healthcare approach, and the ability to generate differential diagnoses allow an adequate clinical and paraclinical approach, having a favorable impact on medical management.
