ABSTRACT

Nowadays, thanatology is a very important support for the patient and its family. A support that they may count on and that the health institutions are very interested to offer to the people in order to keep on giving a holistic and qualified attention. The National Institute of Cardiology “Ignacio Chávez” [Instituto Nacional de Cardiología Ignacio Chávez (INCICH)] counts on a Thanatological Service that is directed by the infirmary staff. This Service is offered to the patient when he/she is experiencing the mourning produced by significant and real losses due to his/her disease and/or death process. The mentioned Service gives attention and support to those patients suffering their terminal phase and to every hospitalized patient that may ask for thanatological aid or support. In order to offer this kind of help it was necessary to create and validate a scale for the attention of the cardiopath patient. This quoted scale allows knowing the patient’s emotional condition in order to select the proper and necessary therapeutic intervention, as well as the way for the analysis of the effectiveness of the given sessions and the course of the treatment.
